When I founded The Lighthouse in 2004, I was coming from the public school system where daily I witnessed students with special needs face frustration and defeat. It was assumed that they could not perform to school and state standards and therefore were not given opportunities to exceed expectations and were simply overlooked.
Children have different abilities and gifts and need different strategies for learning and achieving their goals.   My desire is to provide an educational home that is a warm, encouraging place for students with learning differences and that is as unique as they are so they can make the most of their lives – now and in the future.

I believe small groups are the key to optimal learning experiences, and The Lighthouse provides not only small classrooms but also a caring and warm atmosphere which provides students a safe place to succeed.  Students learn easier when they are provided with tools that build on their strengths and help compensate for their weaknesses.
